Hair or feathers are also called, in the nose, ears, and around the eyes protects these organs from dust and other particles. Here are explanations of hair anatomy:

  • The epidermis is the outer layer of skin which consists of the corneum layer, and also the Malpighi layer. Layer called the corneum layer, is the outermost layer of skin, which is the layer of dead skin, and if peeling, will be replaced with a new layer. While the Malpighi layer is the layer of skin that gives different color to the skin.
  • The dermis is the inner layer of skin, which is the active layer containing blood vessels, nerves, hair follicle, and glands such as the oil and sweat glands. Function of the layer of the dermis, is a skin protector against physical damage, the spread of disease, as well as radiation, also useful as a regulator of body temperature and stimulus recipients.
  • Hair shaft is the hair that came out of, and is above the surface of the skin.
  • Arrector pili muscle is a small muscle attached to the hair follicle.
  • Sebaceous glands or oil glands are also called microscopic glands, whose function secrete sebum (oil) and serve as a protection against germs.
  • Hair follicle is a small sac where the root of the hair grows.
  • Hair bulb, is part of the root of a bloated, and contains active cells that form the hair.
  • Hair papilla is the part that is in the bottom of the follicle, and serves to receive the nutrients provided by the follicle, and this is where hair growth. When cells grow and produce keratin to harden the structure, the cells were driven out of the follicle and then appeared on the surface of the skin as the hair shaft

Each strand of hair has three layers: the medulla at the soft in the middle. Cortex, which is wrapped around the medulla and is a major part of hair, and the cuticle, is a hard exterior and a duty to protect the hair shaft.
